Young forward Max Clayton delighted to be back amongst the goals

Goal scorer Max Clayton admits it was a welcome relief to be back amongst the goals after helping the Alex to a 2-1 win over Shrewsbury Town last night.

Clayton smashed a powerful left-foot strike home just before the hour mark to put the Alex 2-0 ahead after good work from Mathias Pogba.

For the young forward, who prides himself on goals, it has been a frustrating few weeks. Clayton last netted in the 1-0 win over Coventry City on September 1st, and after scoring yesterday, Max is hopeful the goals will now follow.

Max told crewealex.net: “Steve has kept telling me not to get anxious about the lack of goals, because the more you get anxious about it; the less likely they are to come.

“I think my performances have been good, and I think that I have been playing well. The chances just haven’t been dropping for me, but they did last night and thankfully I was able to take one.

“I am still a young lad and I still have a lot to learn, but Bakes, Dario and Steve have all spoke with me and that has helped. When you haven’t been scoring and you see the ball go in the net, it takes the weight of your shoulders and can only make you more confident.”
