Penalty Was A Game-Changer

19 November 2012

Davis says non-penalty changed complexion of the game

Steve Davis, the Crewe Alexandra manager was left even more frustrated when reviewing Saturday’s game-changing incident at Shrewsbury when his goal poacher Lauri Dalle Valle was shoved over in the 6-yard box just before he was about to tap home a knock down from Chuks Aneke.

The referee waved away Crewe’s appeals and having viewed it again 10 times on the DVD, his frustration has only increased.

Davis told the club’s official web-site: “I felt at the time that it was a penalty and my opinion has not changed. I have watched the DVD ten times and it is even clearer.

“It was a definite penalty and I cannot believe the officials didn’t see it and give it. Sometimes those things go for you and sometimes they don’t but I felt that big decision was a game-changer because they scored a few minutes later.

“If we had taken the lead at that point it could have been very different because they were under pressure to get something from the game.”
