Ellis: "We Want A Run"

Defender targetting an F.A. Cup campaign

Defender Mark Ellis has told Crewe Alex Player that the club will be going all out for a cup run this year. The Alex take on Wycombe Wanderers at Gresty Road tomorrow afternoon as they launch their F.A. Cup Round, and Ellis says The Third Round of the competition is the aim.

The Alex haven’t reached Round Three of the competition since 2008/09, and last had a notable F.A. Cup run back in 2001/02 where they reached the Fifth Round and made a memorable trip to Goodison Park to take on Everton.

Ellis is all out for a similar run and a potential tie with a Premier League side: “The Third Round is definitely the aim that is where anybody in the competition at this stage is aiming for. But that is a long way away from now because we have a tough game against Wycombe.

“They were in the league above us last season, and while they have gone down and not done quite as well so far this year, they still have some good players who can hurt us. We need to go out and make sure we keep pressing them and concentrate on our own game.

“Thankfully we have a home draw because in any competition you play in you would be prefer to play in front of your home fans. We want to get to that Third Round when the big boys come in and hopefully draw out one of the big boys.”
