Steve Davis says armband has only added to Murph's game

Steve Davis has praised the performances of his captain Luke Murphy and says that the 23-year-old is developing into a real leader after succeeding the Aston Villa bound Ash Westwood on deadline day. Murphy was again at his influential best in last night’s 3-3 draw against Sheffield United, hitting the crossbar with a wonderful shot from distance that Mark Ellis converted on the rebound and then producing the free-kick that resulted in Mathias Pogba tapping home a close range rebound.

Steve told the club’s official web-site:  “Luke is taking on the extra responsibility as captain and is producing consistent performances. He a local lad and deserved the captain’s armband after Ash left.

“He has taken the role on and is growing in stature. He is playing with real maturity and is showing everyone what a good player he is.”
