Steve Davis says no-one has made contact about any of his youngsters
Steve Davis it ‘is inevitable’ that Crewe Alexandra will always allow our players to move on if the right offer comes to suit all parties but he has stressed that he had not any contact about any of his players ahead of the transfer window. Davis lost arguably his two best performers in the summer with Nick Powell and Ash Westwood moving to Premier League clubs and the Crewe Alexandra manager is hopeful that a substantial offer doesn’t arrive in the New Year for more of his assets.
Steve told crewealex.net: “As a manager of Crewe it is inevitable that you will lose one or two players along the way, because the work we do in the Academy and our willingness to give younger players a chance to play means there is always scouts at our games.
“You can read into that what you will. I am sure some scouts have a quota of matches to attend as part of their job. There is usually around 30+ at our games but you don’t know who they are watching. It is not always our players.
“I have had no enquires for my players. Not one and neither has the chairman. We are always fair and if he hear from anyone then we talk to the player and take it from there.
“You just don’t know what can happen in the transfer window. You could on one hand know that someone is watching someone like Nick Powell or it can come out of the blue like it did with Ash Westwood with Villa.
“It is just our aim to produce good footballers and help them develop and better themselves.”
