Steve says Doncaster tie will be tough...

Crewe Alexandra face Doncaster Rovers in the Northern Section of the Johnstone’s Paint Trophy this evening and manager Steve Davis says although we have already shown that we are more capable of competing against the bigger clubs in League One, our 2-0 win at the Keepmoat Stadium last November won’t count for too much in a one-off cup-tie.

Crewe were excellent at Doncaster, winning thanks to a debut goal from Lauri Dalla Valle and a headed goal from Mathias Pogba in the second half. Crewe face Dean Saunders’ in-form side in a run of decent form themselves but Davis expects another tough encounter.

Steve told crewealex.net: “Dean will be looking to put right that result from last month, when I thought we deservedly won 2-0 at their  ground. We were good value for the win, but it was a tough game. It was very physical and demanding and we had to play to a high level to get a result.

“They will be looking to turn things around and we will be looking to win and get through. Both clubs are only a few games away from Wembley and the interest in the competition is building.

“Doncaster are right up there in our league and I expect them to be up there at the end of the season as well. It should be a good cup tie between two in-form sides and it will be tough.”
