U18 Report & Goals: Crewe 4-1 Sheffield Wednesday

5 October 2017

Apologies, this video is unvailable.

Lee Bell’s Under 18 side produced a fine performance last weekend to thrash PDL2 league leaders Sheffield Wednesday 4-1 at the Reaseheath Training Complex.

Goals from Alex Hurst (2), Travis Johnson & a penalty from Regan Griffiths secured the win despite The Owls equalising after Hurst’s opener.

In an action-packed first period, Crewe took the lead early on, Hurst firing into the top corner with a first time shot from 12-yards after a pull-back from the by-line.

Wednesday drew level at the third bite of the cherry, the striker slamming the ball home after an initial two attempts were blocked.

Right-back Johnson restored the Crewe lead moments later, arriving at the back post to smash home an inswinging cross.

Griffiths made it 3-1 from the spot on the stroke of half-time, sending the keeper the wrong way after Rio Adibisi was brought down when breaking through.

Professionally controlling the game in the second period to ensure all three points, Hurst managed to grab his second of the day, tapping into an empty net after Challis Johnson’s powerful run & cross proved too hot to handle for the keeper.

Crewe: Appleyard, T.Johnson (Fenton), Harrison, Barlow, Adibisi, Griffiths, Offord, Heath (C.Johnson), Hurst, Walsh, Thompson (Lomas)
