The 27-year-old vastly experienced defender joined the club in the summer on a one-year-deal. His versatility has seen him play left-back, left wing back and centre-half.

The Sheffield-born defender began his career at his local side, Sheffield United before signing for Scottish side Kilmarnock in 2016 on a permanent basis.

The former Scotland Under-21 defender returned to England to sign for Alferton Town and after a short stay at Guiseley, he returned to the EFL with Bury in 2018.

After making 44 appearances for the Gigg Lane club and winning promotion to League One, he followed Ryan Lowe to Plymouth Argyle. He scored a memorable brace on his debut against Crewe Alexandra on the opening day of the 2019-20 season with Plymouth winning 3-0 at Gresty Road.

He went on to score 5 goals in just 20 appearances for the Pilgrims before he moved on to Sunderland.

McFadzean made 21 appearances for the Black Cats in all competitions, scoring his only goal against Fleetwood Town in the EFL Trophy. Sunderland went on to lift the trophy, by beating Tranmere Rovers 1-0 in the final.
