Crewe Alex Ladies Win 2016/17 Double!

Goals from Beth Ragdale, Laura Garner and Megan Booth saw Crewe Alex Ladies win the Cheshire FA Ladies Cup for a second straight season with a 3-0 victory against Stockport County Ladies in the final on 19 April.

After some early Stockport possession, the Alex Ladies got off to the perfect start when an expert set piece delivery from Garner was met by centre half Ragdale who's bullet header gave the keeper no chance.

Booth, Beth Grice and Georgina Stebbings all went close before, just after the half hour mark, Garner was given too much time on the ball and unleashed an absolute rocket from distance to double the Alex Ladies' advantage.

Just after the hour mark Stockport had their best opportunity of the game however goalkeeper Kara Townsend got across her goal brilliantly following a cut back to keep a shot out.

As the final headed into the last 20 minutes Crewe stepped up the pressure in search of a third goal which would settle the game as Booth brought a cross from Fallon down before curling an effort against the bar. The energetic winger wrapped up the scoring with a well-deserved goal in the 75th minute, turning in the box before firing left footed into the bottom corner.

The Alex Ladies didn't concede a goal during the entire competition as they made it back to back titles. Congratulations to the girls.

The Crewe Alex Ladies have been through several re-incarnations since its inception in 1985 but from 2012, the ladies section has become a sustainable and progressive club and this has been achieved by mirroring our parent clubs model for developing local talented players and providing them with a pathway into the first team.

Off the field the club has been awarded Charter Standard and Respect Club status by the FA for high standards of coaching, administration and conduct. The Alex Ladies were proud to be named as the Crewe Civic Sports Club of the Year in recognition of its achievements, the playing opportunities given to local girls and the work the club does for charity and in the local community.

Match days see the first team playing their home games at the Cumberland Arena, Thomas Street, Crewe, CW1 2BD. Training for all of the teams takes place at either The Alexandra Soccer Centre or Reaseheath College.

The majority of home fixtures are free entry and take place on Sunday afternoons at 2:00 PM. For more information on how you can support Crewe Alexandra Ladies please visit their official website www.calfc.co.uk.
