Head of Coaching

James Collins

Date of birth

James Collins came through the club’s Academy system as a young player to make 29 appearances for the first team. He was named Man-of-the-Match as Crewe defeated Barnsley 3-1 on his full league debut and he netted his first goal at senior level in a 2-1 win over Bradford City in August 1998.

Collins had earlier gained some playing experience while on loan at our local neighbours Northwich Victoria, scoring three goals in three games for them. He went on to enjoy loan spells at Kidderminster and Halesowen before he was released by Crewe Alexandra in 2001.

He re-joined Northwich on a permanent basis but he was limited to just 18 appearances before he drifted out of the game.

As a talented coach, Collins currently holds the UEFA Pro licence, UEFA A licence and is one of 16 selected coaches to graduate on the Level 5 elite coaches’ award.

He previously coached the club’s Youth Team with Neil Critchley (Liverpool U-23 coach) and the club's Under-23s, before becoming Steve Davis’ first team squad in 2015. He spent two seasons with the first team before being appointed as the club’s Head of coaching in 2017.
