Bakes: Another Tough Test

13 July 2013

Neil Baker gives us his reaction from the club's latest friendly from the Weaver

Following Crewe’s 4-1 victory over Nantwich Town this afternoon, assistant manager Neil Baker declared himself happy with the performance from the Alex squad.

After a goalless first half, a second half hat-trick from substitute Vadaine Oliver followed a strike from substitute Sam Winnall, as the Alex got back to winning ways following a defeat at Leek Town last night.

Baker felt that there were plenty of positives to come from the game for the Alex who will now turn their attentions to the visit of Blackburn Rovers on Tuesday night.

Neil told crewealex.net: “It was another tough afternoon for us. But we have managed to get players some minutes under their belt, and haven’t picked up any injuries.

“We have managed to score some goals and the players have gone on a stage further this afternoon. They didn’t manage to do that yesterday at Leek but they were much better this afternoon.

“Vadaine has scored three terrific goals this afternoon and he has surprised us with the quality of his second goal today. That isn’t the sort of goal we would expect him to score but of course it is pleasing to see.

“We will go again on Tuesday now.  It will be a different test for us, and a more difficult challenge for our defenders.  But it is another game that we are all looking forward too.”
