  • Williams gets 60 minutes under his belt
  • Wednesday take the points
  • Side now preparing for Posh test

Crewe Alexandra Under-21s went down 2-0 at the hands of Sheffield Wednesday on Monday.

The youthful side, featuring fit-again Zac Williams and keeper Tom Booth, went toe-to-toe with the visitors at Alexandra Park.

But two goals in the final 20 minutes took the points for the visitors, in a Professional Development League fixture.

Booth made a smart stop to deny Bruno Fernandes early on, while Lewis Nolan's super run and cross came to nothing at the other end.

Calum Agius saw a shot saved and Booth blocked a Mackenzie Maltby strike as the first half ended goalless.

Crewe had a golden chance to hit the front on 57 minutes but Jack Parry's strike was well blocked by a cluster of defenders.

Defender Williams, who had started a competitive match for the first time since late-December after recovering from an ankle injury, was replaced on the hour mark.

Wednesday hit the front when Luke Cook scored from close range, and he doubled his tally not long after when his high pressing forced a mistake.

Mike Jackson's men travel to Peterborough United on Monday, March 11.
