  • Railwaymen reach county cup final
  • Long, Billington and Finney involved
  • Parry clinches late winner

Crewe Alexandra earned a place in the Cheshire Senior Cup Final after coming from behind to beat Congleton Town at Mornflake Stadium.

In a hard-fought game, the visitors hit the front on 54 minutes thanks to George Sankey's searing strike.

But it was 1-1 with just under 10 minutes remaining when a Will Perry cross was turned over the line by a Bears defender.

And The Railwaymen edged it late on when Jack Parry tapped home the rebound after Lewis Billington's shot had come back off a post.

Crewe will face Hyde United in the final, at a date and venue yet to be confirmed.

First-teamers Christopher Long, Charlie Finney and Billington all started the game for Mike Jackson's side.

Congleton player-manager Michael Duffy headed wide from an early corner, while Finney was only inches wide with a curling shot at the other end.

Good defensive work from Billington preserved the Alex's clean sheet before the break, as he cleared one shot off the line and made a key block to deny another goalbound attempt.

Sankey blasted Congleton ahead from range not long after the restart, but the home side stayed calm.

They bossed possession and wore the visitors down. It paid off when Perry's cross forced a mistake for the equaliser, before substitute  Parry pounced for the late winner.

Crewe: Lenarcik, Dancey, Senior, Billington, Sant, Nolan, Finney (Parry, 74), Agius, Woodcock (Allport, 62), Jatta (Perry, 62), Long (Moore, 45).

Congleton: Parton, Fregapane, Dickinson, Williams, Duffy, Chadwick, Sankey (Lovatt, 64), Allen (Barton, 79), Faulker (Hampton, 87), Hartshorn, Needham (Cocks, 74).
