Boss: ‘’We must carry response forward’

17 March 2024

Lee Bell says Crewe Alexandra must take the positives from an improved second-half display at MK Dons into next weekend’s clash with AFC Wimbledon.

The Manager was disappointed the first-half performance at Stadium:MK which left his men trailing 3-1.

And though they could not turn it around in the second 45, he was far more satisfied with the way they played.

Now, with Play-Off chasing Wimbledon coming to Mornflake Stadium on Saturday (3pm), Bell said: “I’m pleased with the response and we have to carry it forward.

“The response we got from the players in the second half was much more like us. They won’t drop their heads and we have to look at the positives, as well as learning the lessons we need to learn.

“Not many teams will come (to MK Dons) and create as many chances as we did; fine margins changed the game.

“You see how tight it is up to the top of the league, and there are some really enjoyable games coming up. We have to relish them and take them on.”

Elliott Nevitt’s 16th goal of the season was a highlight of the first half at MK Dons.

But Bell added: “The start of the game was a mess. It didn’t look anything like what we’d gone through with the players.

“I was fuming at the second goal – it’s the first time this season it’s not looked like what we’d spoken about. That infuriated me.

“The game could have finished 6-6 but we have to be much more clinical in the final third. We have to become more ruthless.”
