Bell: ‘We own that defeat and we’ll learn from it’

4 March 2024

Lee Bell says Crewe Alexandra must learn from the mistakes that cost them on Saturday.

The Railwaymen led Morecambe 2-0 heading into the final quarter at Mornflake Stadium, thanks to goals from Elliott Nevitt and Shilow Tracey.

But the visitors fought back to win 3-2 with three goals in 14 minutes, meaning the Alex slipped to fourth in League Two.

Manager Bell said: “We were in total control up to the 69th minute, and then in five minutes they turned the game on its head and then went on to get a winner.

“Everything we spoke to the players about at half-time played out, in terms of with and without the football.

“It comes down to individual and collective decision-making, and it has cost us. That shouldn’t happen.

“We are here to win football matches and doing the right things, the basics, would have got us a win. “

He added: “The players were on the floor afterwards but the most important thing is that we learn from it.

“We own and enjoy the wins, and now we have to own that defeat. We take it fully on the chin, take responsibility for it, and aim to get better.

“We have 11 games left so as long as we pick up on the areas we need to do better in, we will be fine.

“We have to bounce back next week - we are still in a very good place. We will stick together and have a right good crack at it.”
