Boss ‘relaxed’ over January business

17 January 2024

Lee Bell says he is ‘relaxed’ about doing business in the January Transfer Window.

Crewe Alexandra have already made Preston midfielder Lewis Leigh their first acquisition of the month.

And the Manager has made no secret of his desire to further strengthen his squad over the next fortnight.

But Bell says the imminent return from injury of several players – plus the form of skipper Luke Offord as a midfielder – means there is no panic.

He said: “We are constantly working on (transfers) but I am more relaxed with the situation now.

“Luke Offord has stepped into midfield and is doing really well. Lewis Billington was really good again on Saturday, and then we’ve Matus (Holicek) rejoining the group in full-time training.

“Zac Williams is running and we are getting some players back. We don’t want to bring players in for the sake of it, we have a really good group and it’s getting somewhere near.”

Loan midfielder Joe White has returned to Newcastle United this week but Bell is open to the possibility of him rejoining Crewe before the end of January.

Joel Tabiner (ankle), Charlie Finney (calves), Owen Lunt (back) and Jack Powell (knee) remain sidelined.
