Bell delighted plan came together

21 January 2024

Crewe Alexandra players executed the gameplan perfectly at Barrow.

That’s according to Manager Lee Bell, who was full of praise for the way his men carried out the instructions delivered by staff.

The 3-1 success ended Barrow’s unbeaten home run and lifted Crewe to fourth in League Two.

Bell said: “It was a fantastic result. I think (Barrow) are a really good team and well-organised, but we were fully deserving of the win.

“The players and the staff have been excellent all week and the plan we worked on worked a treat. We designed a plan on how to get behind them and the players took on the information brilliantly and I’m delighted for them.”

Elliott Nevitt cancelled out Barrow’s opener with his 11th of the season, and homegrown duo Lewis Billington and Matus Holicek scored their first goals for Crewe in the second half.

Bell added: “Nev was tremendous; a real goal threat and his link-up play was excellent, too. He occupied the middle centre half as we wanted him to. He was disappointed he didn’t get a couple more goals but I can’t fault his performance.

“Lewis has taken to first-team football really well and we thought it was right to reward him with an improved contract this week.

“There was no messing about from him - he got it done in 24 hours which is credit to him and his agent, who is really good to work with.

“To be up there (to score) shows the energy he’s got. We’ve commented on how well he looks after himself and his all-round game was really good.

“We’ve missed Matus while he has been injured. That’s what he has got to do – score and create and make an impact when he comes on.”
