Austerfield arrives on loan from Terriers

18 January 2024

Midfielder Josh Austerfield has joined Crewe Alexandra on loan from Huddersfield Town until the end of the season.

The 22-year-old has become Lee Bell’s second signing of the January window and he is in the frame to feature at Barrow on Saturday.

Austerfield, who impressed during loan spells at Harrogate Town and Morecambe last season, has played for the Terriers in The Championship this term.

A graduate of Huddersfield's academy, he signed professional terms at 17 and has made more than 50 senior appearances in total.

Ryan Dicker, Alex Assistant Manager, said: "Josh is a talented boy and has an excellent profile. He gets around the pitch really well, he's technically very good and he will fit in with our style of play.

"He has had two good loan spells before and he has also played in The Championship. We think he will help and add to the qualities we already have in the building.

"He ticks a lot of boxes and I don’t think it will take him long to fit in. A good player is a good player and we believe he will adapt quickly."

Austerfield, who is contracted to his hometown club until 2026, will wear the number 25 shirt for The Railwaymen.

Everybody at Crewe Alexandra would like to wish Josh the best of luck during his time at Mornflake Stadium.
