Bell previews Magpies trip

23 February 2024

Lee Bell is expecting a tight game when Crewe Alexandra travel to Notts County tomorrow (Saturday, 3pm).

The Railwaymen will be aiming to extend their unbeaten away run to six games against a side experiencing patchy form.

But they have not won at Meadow Lane in eight attempts, with the last victory there coming in 1997 thanks to a Mark Rivers goal.

The Magpies recently appointed Stuart Maynard as boss, following the departure of Luke Williams to Swansea City.

Bell said: “I don’t think they have changed much under the new Manager - he hasn’t gone away from what he inherited because they were playing well and they’ve got good players.

“I’m an admirer of how they play but I’m hoping we will give them one or two things to worry about as well. I expect a tight game.”

Crewe beat County 1-0 at Mornflake Stadium earlier this season, thanks to an injury-time penalty from Courtney Baker-Richardson.

Bell's men will start the game fourth in League Two, 11 points ahead of 10th-placed County, who have played a game less.
