Bell previews Wrexham clash

19 April 2024

Lee Bell says the onus is on Crewe Alexandra to perform and get a result against Wrexham tomorrow (Saturday, 12.30pm).

The Welsh side have already been confirmed as promoted and they will come to South Cheshire on the back of three consecutive wins.

But the Manager believes his players owe it to themselves and the supporters to deliver a big performance as they look to confirm a Play-Off spot.

Bell said: “The players have been hurting after losing our last two home games and there’s no bigger game than what we’ve got coming up on Saturday.

“But, regardless of who we are playing against, it’s about what we have to do. There has to be individual pride there and the onus is on us to go out and perform.

“It’s a really good opportunity for us to better showcase what we are about.

“We are in a great position and it shows how well we have done. We have brought an element of expectation back, which I think is brilliant. We have to thrive off it and relish it.

“We have worked ever so hard to get into this situation and taken a lot of knocks along the way. The players will be up for it.

“We have to get back to the standards we have set throughout the season.

Phil Parkinson’s side are level on points with Mansfield and will be looking to claim the League Two runners-up spot.

The club, owned by Hollywood actors Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney, have now enjoyed two consecutive promotions.

Bell added: “They have famous owners and I think a lot of it gets deflected away from the players and staff. They’ve done brilliantly to get out of this division – congratulations to them.

“I don’t think the players and staff are getting as much credit as they deserve. They have been consistent and in-and-around the top three for a massive part of the season.”
