Charlie Colkett is expected to return to full training next week.
The midfielder, who picked up a hamstring injury at Barnsley in the final pre-season friendly of the summer, spent time at St George’s Park undergoing rehabilitation.
Now the 27-year-old, who came through the youth ranks at Chelsea, is closing in on a return.
Manager Lee Bell said: “Charlie had a good week at St George’s Park. He’s back now and doing pitch sessions, and hopefully he can rejoin the group next week.”
Meanwhile, forward Shilow Tracey is a doubt for this weekend’s clash at AFC Wimbledon (Saturday, 3pm).
The wide man, who picked up an ankle problem in the recent Papa John’s Trophy game at Port Vale, had been hoping to be involved.
But Bell added: “It looks like this weekend will be too soon for Shilow, he’s still feeling pain in his ankle.”
