Boss previews cup clash at Port Vale

5 September 2023

Lee Bell says he will rotate his squad for tonight’s Papa John’s Trophy match at Port Vale – and made it clear it is an opportunity for fringe and younger players to impress.

The Railwaymen will visit Vale Park for the second time in eight days to kick-off their Group B campaign (Tuesday, 7.45pm).

After a hectic start to 2023-24, the Manager says he will make changes to use fresher legs and give opportunities to up-and-coming players.

Bell still wants a result, and says his men can make a claim for a starting spot at Forest Green this weekend.

“We will do our best to win the match, as always,” he said.

“We’ll have to assess everything and there will be a lot of changes. We have to be mindful of what we want to achieve, which includes giving some players some minutes on the pitch.

“I’ll also stress to the players that it is an opportunity to stake a claim for Saturday. I want to have headaches all over the pitch in terms of team selection.

“The game won’t look the same as it did at Port Vale last week but the principles remain the same. We want to play good football and get on the front foot, and hopefully get the win.”
