Matchday Guide | Tranmere (H)

14 October 2023

Crewe Alexandra will look to get back to winning ways when Tranmere Rovers visit Mornflake Stadium today (Saturday, 3pm).

Lee Bell’s men want to extend their 13-game unbeaten home league run and bounce back from last weekend's reverse at Salford City.

The Opposition

Tranmere sacked boss Ian Dawes after a slow start to the season and Nigel Adkins has been in charge for a little more than a month. Seven points from their last 12 have improved the situation but they sit 22nd in League Two.

The Gaffer

Nigel Adkins has a wealth of experience in management, having previously taken charge of the likes of Southampton, Sheffield United and Hull City.

The 58-year-old is Technical Director at Prenton Park but stepped into the breach after Dawes departed and has overseen an upturn in results.

Fighting Talk

Ryan Dicker (Alex assistant): "It will be a tough game; they have picked up in the last few results. They have changed their system and the way they play. He has got them organised and a lot more aggressive which gets them on the front foot."

Nigel Adkins: “Crewe have the same sort of principles as they have played over the years, they want to play football. Playing football, the Crewe way. It will be a tough game."

Head-to-Head

Crewe Alexandra and Tranmere Rovers have met 140 times. Tranmere have emerged victorious on 61 occasions while The Railwaymen have come out on top 46 times. The remaining 33 clashes have been draws.

The last meeting between the teams ended in a 1-0 victory for Crewe thanks to a super strike from Charlie Colkett scored on New Year’s Day.

Match Officials

The referee for Saturday’s clash is Ross Joyce while his assistant will be Simon Shaw and Steven Plane. The fourth official is Lewis Raper.
