Boss keeping tabs on Joel’s fitness

27 October 2023

Joel Tabiner is in race against time to be fit for Saturday’s clash at Harrogate Town.

That’s according to boss Lee Bell, who said yesterday (Thursday) that the young midfielder had still not returned to full training after picking up an ankle injury during the win over Crawley last weekend.

While has not yet ruled Tabiner out, Bell says fellow midfielders Charlie Colkett and Conor Thomas – who have both spent spells on the sidelines - could be ready to step in.

“Joel hasn’t been out training with us and it looks unlikely that he will be ready for the weekend, but we will give him every chance.

“Charlie is certainly ready to go. He’s got quite a few minutes under his belt so he’s got to work hard in training, like he does every day, to force his way into the reckoning.

“Conor was on the bench in midweek and we could have got some minutes out of him. We have to listen to sports science because there is always the risk of setbacks when players are returning from injury.”

The Railwaymen could be a little light on numbers in the engine room at Harrogate, after Jack Powell (knee) was ruled out with a long-term knee injury.

Teenagers Owen Lunt and Matus Holicek are among those also standing by.
