FA Youth Cup: Crewe 3 Boldmere 0

16 November 2023

  • Railwaymen progress to round three
  • Agius stars with a goal and assist
  • Moore and Allport on target

Crewe Alexandra produced a professional display under the lights to progress to the next stage of the FA Youth Cup.

Calum Agius, Luca Moore and Rhys Allport were on target in a 3-0 second-round victory over Boldmere St Michaels at Mornflake stadium.

Birmingham-based Boldmere put up a brave fight and should be proud of their achievements in the competition, after winning five games and taking the scalps of the likes of Kidderminster Harriers and Chesterfield.

But they could not live with the young Railwaymen, who dominated for long spells and could have scored more goals than they did.

Crewe went close on seven minutes when Lucas Sant's dangerous cross was met by Nathan Robinson but the defender's header was cleared off the line.

However, skipper Agius made the breakthrough not long after when he arrived on the end of Stanley Dancey's whipped cross and slotted home from close range.

Muhamed Jatta hit the post from an acute angle and Matthew Senior headed just wide as David Vaughan's side continued to press.

Allport was twice superbly denied by Boldmere keeper Owen Burton before the break, while Crewe keeper Mikolaj Lenarick was untroubled at the other end.

Sant's 25-yarder was just wide soon after the restart, but just before the hour the Alex doubled their advantage. Agius played a delightful through ball to Moore who set himself well before delivering the goods from 10-yards out.

Agius danced through the middle and rattled the woodwork on 71 minutes, while substitute Will Perry dragged wide as the home side looked for the clincher.

Burton produced a magnificent save from Allport with 10 minutes remaining but with three minutes left, the Crewe man had his goal after Robinson teed him up for a smart finish.
