Clear objectives for Trophy tie

21 November 2023

Crewe Alexandra’s final Bristol Street Motors Trophy game of the season will provide plenty of individual and collective objectives for players.

That’s according to Manager Lee Bell, who says tonight’s visit of Newcastle United Under-21s will have many elements of interest (Tuesday, 7.45pm).

Neither side can progress from Group B but there will be enough at stake to make for an entertaining encounter at Mornflake Stadium.

Bell said: “There will be opportunities for some players to get minutes under their belts, while others will have a chance to stake a claim to get closer to the team.

"There will also be chances for some players who haven’t been around the first team before to gain some experience.

“We will take the game seriously and we want to win - that is the culture we are trying to breed at the club. Hopefully, we will get an open game of football.

“And the staff will get the chance to have a look at some of the young lads and see how they react when they are exposed to the expectations and demands of the first team.”

Crewe will start the game bottom of Group B after defeats to Wrexham and Port Vale earlier in the competition. Newcastle are second bottom thanks to a point gained from a draw at Vale.
