Bell: ‘I’d love to play with this team’

26 November 2023

Manager Lee Bell admitted he would have loved to be a player with the current Crewe Alexandra team after they beat Doncaster 3-2 in dramatic fashion.

The Railwaymen came out on top in a topsy-turvy clash at Mornflake Stadium thanks to goals from Connor O’Riordan (2) and Luke Offord.

It wasn’t the best Crewe performance of the season but they dug deep to get the three points with an injury-time winner.

Bell said: “I’d have loved to be a player in this team because they are good to work with and they are really bonded.

“It means a lot to them. They are good, intelligent players. We know we were below our standards but when that happens you have to find a way to win.

“That’s what we have done and I hope everyone has gone home happy.

“It was a battling performance and we showed resilience. I always feel confident that they can come up with something like that winner because of the group of lads they are.

“It doesn’t matter who scores, the main thing is we scored more than them. We were under par in our performance and there is loads to improve on but we want them to have high ambitions and keep that dream alive.”
