Lee Bell says he was proud to be part of a memorable victory for Crewe Alexandra over Derby County.

The Railwaymen won the FA Cup first round replay at Pride Park 3-1 thanks to an Aaron Rowe double and a Mickey Demetriou header.

Manager Bell said: “It was a brilliant night for the club. I’m so proud to have been part of it; I’m proud of the players and the supporters were excellent.

“I thought it was right we won the game. The gameplan was spot on and we executed it brilliantly. 

“I’ve told the players that these last two or three weeks are probably the proudest time I’ve had in football.

“To be around these lads and the staff – they are giving us everything. It’s some achievement. We had about nine players missing but it is about the whole squad. 

“We are in football to enjoy it and if we don’t enjoy that we may as well give up!

“I hope the fans enjoyed it; we could hear them throughout the game and they were the noisier of the two sets of fans.

“I’m really pleased for them because they have really stuck by me. I’m pleased we have given them something to celebrate.”

He added: “It keeps building belief through the players and the staff and I still think there is much more to come.

“We will put this on the backburner now, give the players some time off and then concentrate on Doncaster.”
