Allport aiming to earn more action

22 November 2023

Rhys Allport is hungry for more first-team chances after marking his Crewe Alexandra debut with a goal.

The 17-year-old scholar scored within two minutes of making his bow and The Railwaymen went on to beat Newcastle United Under-21s 2-1 at Mornflake Stadium.

Now the forward – one of a dozen homegrown Alex players to feature in the Bristol Street Motors Trophy clash – is aiming to earn more opportunities with Lee Bell’s team.

Allport, who was called into the Wales U17s squad earlier this year, said: “It was an unbelievable feeling to make my professional debut and score my first goal; I hope’s the first of many.

“It was nice to get out there with so many of the lads I’ve played with for such a long time and share that feeling with them. That makes it even sweeter.

“I had to focus on doing the job I’d been asked to do, play my normal game and not let the occasion get to me.

“I’m really thankful for the opportunity I’ve been given and hopefully I’ve repaid that. I’m hungry for more opportunities to prove what I can do.

“The aim for every lad is to get around the first team and I’m no different. Moments like that will only help."
