Boss: ‘Let’s play with freedom on final day’

7 May 2023

Lee Bell wants his Crewe Alexandra side to play with freedom when they visit Newport County in the final game of the season (Monday, 12.30pm).

The Railwaymen will round off 2022-23 at Rodney Parade, with a top-half finish in League Two still possible.

A victory over The Exiles, who have lost their last two at home but edged the Alex 2-1 earlier in the season, would take Crewe – who will start the game 13th - to 60 points

Bell said: “We want to go there and put on a performance.

“There is no pressure on the players, they can play with freedom and enjoy the last game.

“But let’s be competitive and try to pick up another three points.

“We’ve finished off at home on a high, but we haven’t picked up enough wins away from home. We need to do better and this is an opportunity.”
