Morris: ‘We have to gain control at Northampton’

17 March 2023

Alex Morris says Crewe Alexandra are firmly focused on producing a vastly-improved performance at promotion-chasing Northampton tomorrow (Saturday, 3pm).

The Assistant Manager shared Lee Bell's view that the team did not play enough football in the midweek defeat at Stevenage.

Now he is hoping to see work on the training ground come into fruition at Sixfields.

Morris said: “The aim on Saturday is to produce better football so we can gain better control and create more goalmouth action.

“If we are going to evolve as a team, we have to be capable of playing progressive football to get us up the pitch. That’s the challenge and what we’ve been working on.

Northampton are fourth in League Two, and unbeaten in five games after a 1-0 midweek win over Mansfield.

Morris added: “Northampton are a team full of good, solid League Two players but they also have quality on top of that.

“Sam Hoskins in the top scorer in the league, so they certainly have firepower, and they have options from the bench too.

“We expect them to have territory and load the ball into our box, and we have to stand up to those challenges.”

Crewe will make late checks on midfielders Ryan Finnigan and Tariq Uwakwe, who both picked up muscular injuries last time out.
