Focus is on physical output at Halesowen, says boss

7 July 2023

Lee Bell is looking for a strong physical performance from his players – rather than technical or tactical excellence – in Crewe Alexandra’s first pre-season friendly.

The Railwaymen will visit the Southern Premier Division outfit for the first of their warm-up fixtures tomorrow (Saturday, 3pm).

The Manager has set his squad clear aims and objectives for the match.

“I want to see a high-energy performance,” said Bell.

“We will be looking at physical aspects more than anything technical or tactical, because that is the key at this stage of proceedings.

“Sports science will come into it though; the players will probably only do 45 minutes each. We put our faith in the sports scientists because we don’t want to overcook players and risk injuries.

“We listen because they know their stuff, and the players have been hitting the markers we are looking for at the moment, so we're pleased with that.

“We don’t want to risk injuries, but I do want to see the bits we have been working on in training, too. We’re looking forward to it.”

Supporters are expected to get their first glimpse of new signings Ryan Cooney, Shilow Tracey, Jack Powell, and Harvey Davies in the West Midlands.
