Fans out in force for special away kit unveil

27 July 2023

Crewe Alexandra’s stunning new away strip proved a hit with supporters who turned out in force for a special unveiling ceremony in the town centre.

More than 200 fans attended the event at Crewe Market Hall, where they mixed with players, coaching staff and directors.

The stylish new teal shirt, manufactured by FBT and sponsored by Mornflake, got the approval of supporters who quickly snapped them up.

The successful occasion was organised by The Railwaymen Supporters’ Society, with support from the club.

Manager Lee Bell said: “The night blew me away, to be honest. I thought it was brilliant.

“I’d just expected us to be milling around our club stall in the Market Hall, but when I arrived and saw the stage set up and so many people already there, it took me aback.

“The players were brilliant and interacted with the fans for a long period of time.

“The RSS organised it superbly well and the shirt went down a storm - I’ve got one for my lad! It’s a really smart shirt.

“Events like this one bring everyone together. Crewe isn’t a massive town and I think it’s important that the football club is at the head of it.

“We have to have a strong connection with your fans because that’s who we are out there doing everything for. That is so important to me.

“Particularly the young fans; we have to make them feel a real part of everything that goes on and events like this help with that.

“We have to all be as one. When we have good times we will enjoy them together, but when we need everyone to fight together and push in the same direction – hopefully we can do that too. Let’s hope we can have more nights like this one.”

Alex first-teamers Jack Powell, Lewis Billington, Charlie Colkett, Mickey Demetriou and Harvey Davies strutted down the catwalk to model the new strip for onlookers.

They were joined on the runway by Crewe Alexandra Women players Hannah Holloway, Jess Sheridan and Katie Gibbons.

Mayor of Crewe, Cllr Dennis Straine-Francis, was also in attendance at the event which was compèred by The Cat Radio.

RSS committee member Scott Kynnersley organised the event along with Matt Owen, Mark Beavan and Adrian Dobson.

He said: “It was great to see such good numbers turn up and families really enjoying it.

"There were lots of kids there, who are the future of the club, and the players were fantastic with them and signed autographs and posed for pictures for a good two hours after the kit unveil.

“We had eight or nine RSS members who worked hard on the night, and the club were really helpful in putting it together.

“It was good to get the Alex community together in the town centre and it was definitely a success. I hope we can stage more events of this type in the future.”

Crewe Alexandra's new home and away strips are available to order now!

Prices have been frozen from last year, meaning shirts are still priced at £48 for adults and £35 for juniors.
