Boss: “A pleasing display – but I always want more”

16 July 2023

Lee Bell saw plenty of positives from his players in the 2-2 draw with Burton Albion – but says he will be demanding more in the coming weeks.

The Railwaymen continued their unbeaten start to pre-season as Christopher Long and Courtney Baker-Richardson netted in the first friendly at Mornflake Stadium.

Bell said: “I could see plenty of the stuff we were trying to do. I told the players it wasn’t perfect but there is plenty to work with.

“I'm never happy, I always want more! I think we're in a good position though.

"I just thought that in the first half we were not aggressive enough to win the ball back in midfield.

"But I thought when we did have the ball, particularly in the final third, we showed some quality on the ball.

"I’m really pleased and I think you can see some of the quality we brought in with the new players.

"Our young players as well – it was important to give them a chance to see what they can do. I want them to be pushing to get into the first team.”

The pre-season campaign continues apace with a trip to Vauxhall Motors on Tuesday (7.30pm) and the visit of Lincoln City on Saturday (3pm).

Bell added: “We will increase the tactics side of what we are looking for over the next few weeks.

“I want to see if we get some of the outcomes we’re looking for, so we will reinforce that again in the next two to three weeks.”
