Fans can play part in derby day effort, says boss

20 January 2023

Strong home support could help Crewe Alexandra execute their plan to right the wrongs of their Boxing Day defeat at Stockport County, when the sides meet again tomorrow (Saturday, 3pm).

That’s according to Manager Lee Bell, who says he expects much better from his men than they produced in the 2-0 reverse at Edgeley Park.

And he believes the ‘togetherness’ he has felt in the last two games at Mornflake Stadium can be an important factor.

He said: “We have a plan ready to enable us to give a better account of ourselves than we did on Boxing Day.

“Stockport are a really good team and they are having a real push. They have a good management team, good people, and they have good crowds.

"I should think they’ll have a good go at getting more players in before the end of January too, so let’s see.

“They’ve got a sound shape and base from which to work, and they are a threat. They have some good size in the team, so it will be a test and our players will have to be at it.

“But I mentioned a couple of weeks ago – I’ve felt a real togetherness in our crowd lately.

“I think the fans could see and appreciate the endeavours of our players, and it really helps us.

“I’d think Stockport will bring a couple of thousand too, so there will be a good atmosphere. That’s what our players want to play in front of.
