- Kempster-Down and Martins on target in victory
- Witton notch late consolation at Mornflake Stadium
- Nantwich Town now await in quarter-final clash
Goals from Zak Kempster-Down and Marquise Martins earned Crewe Alexandra a place in the quarter-finals of the Cheshire Senior Cup.
The teenagers struck to secure a 2-0 victory over Witton Albion at Mornflake Stadium on Tuesday.
The success, clinched by a strong team which featured the likes of Luke Offord, Callum Ainley and Oliver Finney, means Crewe will travel to face Nantwich Town in the next stage of the competition.
It was a commanding performance from The Railwaymen, who could have made the breakthrough before defender Kempster-Down netted on 40 minutes.
Joel Tabiner almost got on the end of a Connor Evans cross inside five minutes, and Sam Bhatti saw an effort deflected just over.
Prince Haywood threatened at the other end for Witton, but the breakthrough goal was worth waiting for.
Finney found Kempster-Down on the left side and the youngster advanced to the edge of the box before lashing into the top corner.
After the restart, the raiding Bhatti saw a strike tipped over the bar by the visiting keeper. But on 73 minutes it was 2-0.
Matus Holicek created space in the box and held off his marker before teeing up Martins for a simple finish.
Witton kept plugging away and pulled one back on 85 minutes, when Connor Hughes netted from close range.
But it was too little, too late and the Alex were through to the next round.
Crewe: Richards, Bhatti, Kempster-Down, Offord, Crolla, Lunt, Tabiner (Agius), Finney (Webster), Ainley (Martins), Holicek, Evans (Woodcock).
