Lee Bell provides update on January window activity

17 January 2023

Lee Bell is hopeful of adding to his squad after a positive meeting with a player yesterday (Monday).

The boss held talks with a target and representatives from his parent club, regarding a loan move until the end of the season.

Initial feedback was good, and now Crewe Alexandra are waiting for the opportunity to progress the deal.

Bell said: "We had a really good meeting last night with a player via Zoom. It was really positive and we had some really good feedback from his club straight away. I’m hopeful that I'll hear back from them today.

"I’m waiting on another call too. I’m trying to get players in who I think are going to improve us.

"We could have done all our business by now, but with the funds we have available we have to make sure we get the right people to help us move forward in the league."

Bell, who has already extended the loan deal of Lachlan Brook, and captured the permanent signing of striker Elliott Nevitt, says more loan deals are the likely course of action this month.

He added: "It looks like we will be looking at loans. Unless a player becomes available who we think could improve us next year, and is a good age, then we’d maybe be willing to do something a little bit longer.

"But some options like that have been put to us, and we feel they might not quite fit the bill next year in terms of how we want to move forward.

"It’s just about having loads of conversations. Often, people come up with unrealistic things, but the staff have been brilliant and have been taking as much work off me as possible. We are working hard and trying to get in the best players we can."
