Holicek commits to long-term deal

25 January 2023

Crewe Alexandra are delighted to announce that homegrown midfielder Matus Holicek has signed a long-term deal with the club.

The Slovakia youth international has celebrated turning 18 today (Wednesday) by putting pen to paper on a new contract.

The agreement, which runs until summer 2025 and includes an option for a further two years, is reward for Holicek’s swift progress.

He said: “I’m delighted and grateful to everyone who has supported me, my family, coaches, and everyone else along the way.

“It’s  very exciting and I just can’t wait to put in more hard work and see where it takes me.”

Holicek joined Crewe Alexandra at the age of nine and has shone as he progressed through the ranks.

A creative and forward-thinking midfielder with an eye for goal, he was awarded his first professional deal as a 17-year-old.

Holicek starred in the club’s FA Youth Cup exploits this season, scoring four goals in three games.

He made his first-team debut in the Papa John’s Trophy win over Leeds United in November, and has been amongst the substitutes on numerous occasions for League Two fixtures.

Now he has joined fellow homegrown teenagers Zac Williams, Connor O’Riordan, Joel Tabiner, and Connor Evans, in committing his future to the club.

Everyone at Crewe Alexandra would like to congratulate Matus on his new contract, and wish him all the very best for the future.
