Boss delighted with four additions and ‘unlikely’ to add more in January

24 January 2023

Lee Bell is delighted with Crewe Alexandra’s four new signings – and is unlikely to sign any more players this month.

As well as extending the loan of Lachlan Brook, the Manager has brought in attackers Elliott Nevitt and David Amoo, midfielder Ryan Finnigan, and keeper James Beadle.

While he will not rule out further movement, he does not anticipate any more additions.

Bell said:  I’m really pleased to get what we wanted over the line. The staff worked really hard to come up with the right targets and get the deals done.

“I think we’ve got a really good balance of what we needed, and we’ve brought in good characters.

“It looks like we are done now - but you can never be sure. Something might crop up, and we will still be looking, but it is unlikely anything else will happen unless something emerges which can work for everybody.”

Nevitt was captured for an undisclosed fee from Tranmere earlier this month, while Amoo arrived from Stevenage on a deal until the end of the season, last week.

Highly-rated youngsters Finnigan and Beadle arrived from Southampton and Brighton respectively, on loans until the end of 2022-23.

Bell added: “As soon as we found out David was available, we jumped on it. He will add excitement and experience to the group and he has been around successful teams.

“Ryan is a player we highlighted quite early. Olly Lancashire at Southampton was excellent with that and really helped us and he spoke to the player.

“Brighton actually came to us with the proposition regarding James and it works brilliantly for both parties. It enables Tom Booth to go out on loan, and it means we have a really good goalkeeper on our hands who will bring genuine competition to Dave Richards.

“We didn’t want this spell without games, but it does at least give the new boys extra time to bed in with the boys and build friendships, settle where they are living, and adapt to what we want from them.”
