Bell’s ambition was key factor in signing - Amoo

23 January 2023

David Amoo says Lee Bell’s desire to drive up standards at Crewe Alexandra was part of the reason he signed for the club last week.

The winger penned a deal until the end of the season, after his contract at promotion-chasing Stevenage was ended by mutual consent.

Now the 31-year-old is relishing the opportunity of a fresh start, under a boss who is intent on improving all aspects at Mornflake Stadium.

Amoo said: “I’m really happy to be here. It happened really quickly, but I spoke the manager and his team, and a lot of the lads, and it seems a really good group.

“Everyone wants to do well and help the team finish as high as possible. I’m looking forward to being part of it.

“The Manager wants to drive standards here and push the club on. He wants to bring a good culture and, for sure, I want to be involved in that. It seems like it’s going the right way already.

“I think he wants me to add experience to a young team, and bring something different on the pitch – a bit of pace and end-product.”

Amoo, who can operate on either flank, is a former Liverpool academy youth who has scored 49 goals in more than 400 career appearances.

He has bags of experience after playing for the likes of Preston, Carlisle, Cambridge and Port Vale.

Crewe’s fourth new signing of the January transfer window says he will pass on his knowledge to the younger players in the squad.

Amoo added: “There are some good young players coming through and it’s a good squad, and any help and advice I can give, I’ll be happy to do that.

“I want to get on the training pitch and show my stuff. I’ve played here before and I hope I get a decent welcome - I’m looking forward to playing in front of the fans and showing them what I can do.”
