‘We all know that Nevitt will score goals’ - Agyei

19 February 2023

Dan Agyei has backed fellow forward Elliott Nevitt to get amongst the goals for Crewe Alexandra.

Agyei is now the club’s stand-alone leading scorer this season after taking his tally to nine with a penalty in the 2-2 draw at Harrogate.

That made it three in two-and-a-half games for the 25-year-old, which has coincided with a new central role alongside Nevitt.

But Nevitt is yet to get off the mark since joining Crewe in January, despite going close on numerous occasions during his seven appearances for the club.

Agyei said: “Elliott has brought a lot to the team. He is great to play with and he works hard. His movement is great and he creates chances.

“We all know the quality he has got and we know he is going to score.

“My target is always to score more goals, and when I look at the top scorer leaderboard I’m still quite far away. I need to find a way to score more goals and create more too, and that will lead to more wins for us.”

Agyei’s 83rd minute spot-kick sparked a revival from 2-0 down at Harrogate, and Tariq Uwakwe’s first for the club earned a point six minutes later.

He added: “It was a great end to the game, we might even have nicked it, but we’ll take a point and move on to Walsall on Tuesday.

“We had a few chances before we scored and, on another day, we’d have scored a couple. But it was a great comeback, credit to the lads. It’s a great feeling and we need to take it into Tuesday and try to get three points.”
