Injury update: Mixed news on Mellor and Amoo

10 February 2023

Kelvin Mellor is responding positively to treatment, but David Amoo has been ruled out for at least four weeks.

That’s according to boss Lee Bell, who delivered mixed news on the duo earlier today (Friday).

Mellor has been missing since the draw with Stockport on January 31 due to a knee problem, while Amoo sustained his ankle injury during Tuesday’s defeat to Leyton Orient.

Bell explained: “Kelvin is responding well to the treatment he has received and we are hopeful we will get him back sooner than first expected.

“We were initially worried that we would lose him for a good while, but now he will see the specialist again next week. We hope he will get the green light to move to the next phase of his rehab.

“With David, we are looking at four weeks, minimum. He has sprained ligaments, so it could be nearer to six. We hope it won’t be that long because he has been a great presence since he has been here.

“Luck hasn’t been on his side, but now someone else will get an opportunity. It’s unfortunate but there is nothing we can do about it, so we march on.”

Christopher Long (ankle) remains out of action with no return in sight, while Courtney Baker-Richardson is making strides in his recovery from hamstring surgery.
