Matchday Guide|Barrow (H)

22 December 2023

Crewe Alexandra will look to put on a show for a bumper crowd when Barrow visit Mornflake Stadium on Friday (7:45pm).

Lee Bell’s fifth-placed side will aim to get back to winning ways against the second-placed visitors, in what promises to be an exciting occasion.

The Opposition

Barrow will start the game six points behind leaders Stockport County, and three above The Railwaymen.

A seven-match winning run has propelled them up the standings. The Bluebirds are unbeaten in the league since the start of October.

The Gaffer

Pete Wild took the reins at Holker Street in summer 2022. He guided the club to a ninth-placed finish last term and is well on course to better that this time around.

Wild, a former amateur player who started a coaching career early, spent three years in charge of England Amputees before briefly taking taking the hotseat at Oldham Athletic. He was boss at Halifax Town between 2019-2022.

Fighting Talk

Lee Bell: “Barrow have done brilliantly. I like how they play and how they set up. They have a clear structure without the ball and they regain the ball well and try to hurt you.”

Pete Wild: They have some good players that can hurt you; it is about whether you can nullify them and be the best version of yourself."

Head-to-Head

Crewe have won 45 times against Barrow over the 87 meetings between the two sides. Barrow has won 27 games with the remaining 15 games ending as a draw.

Match Officials

Alan Young will be in charge of Friday’s match. Conor Brown and Karl Buckley will be his assistants, while the fourth official will be Alan Clayton.

Young has dished out 54 yellow cards and two reds in nine games this term.
