Boss welcomes Swindon selection headache

11 August 2023

Lee Bell admits he has a selection headache on his hands as Crewe Alexandra prepare to visit Swindon Town on Saturday (3pm).

The Manager made five changes for the midweek Carabao Cup game at Sunderland, and switched to an experimental 3-5-2 formation.

The players responded superbly with a strong display which ultimately earned a place in round two.

Now Bell is mulling over his options, and admits he will have to leave some players disappointed.

He said: “The players who came in have given us a right headache for Saturday, but it’s a good headache because that’s what we wanted them to do.

“Some will be happy and some will be disappointed but that’s what we have put this squad together for – so that when we do make changes, we are still very competitive.

“Saturday will be a really tough game. They have a good manager and he has got some good players together and we will have to be at it again.”

Swindon’s League Two opener at Colchester United was postponed due to a waterlogged pitch, so their first outing was at Peterborough in the Carabao Cup, where they lost on penalties.

Michael Flynn, who added Tariq Uwakwe to his squad earlier in the summer, set his men out in a 3-5-2 system in the game.
