Lee Bell praised the character of his Crewe Alexandra side after they fought back to draw 2-2 at Swindon Town.
Goals from Zac Williams and Rio Adebisi saw The Railwaymen recover from 2-0 down at the County Ground to remain unbeaten so far this season.
However, the Manager made it clear that his side’s start was not acceptable.
Bell said: “We showed good character when we went 2-0 down, and the character of this group has never been in question.
“We played some really good football in the second half and we had the opportunities.
“A point is a point and now I’ve got to draw on the positives of that and look to Tuesday in terms of what we can do.
“But we said last week we didn’t want to make a habit of (falling behind) and we certainly don’t.
“That first-half performance is totally unacceptable. It shouldn’t take conceding goals for the shackles to come off you and to get us playing with freedom.”
Bell reserved special praise for subs Matus Holicek, Elliott Nevitt and Ryan Cooney, who he felt made significant impacts.
He added: “The substitutes made a really good impression on the game.
“Nev came on and brought others into the game had a really big impact, and Ryan came on and he was sound. Matus showed some courage to get on the football and they are right in contention for Tuesday.”
