Boss: 'It was a great comeback'

30 April 2023

Lee Bell was 'delighted' with Crewe Alexandra's comeback victory over Swindon Town.

The Railwaymen trailed 1-0 due to Rushian Hepburn-Murphy's strike just before the interval.

But goals from Conor Thomas and Joel Tabiner in the final 10 minutes turned it around, and made it six unbeaten at home.

Manager Bell said: "It was a really good comeback, I’m delighted we won the game.

"I thought it was an open game, and I felt there’d be an opportunity for us to get something out of it.

"The subs came on and made a real impact, and it’s a team game – that's what it’s all about.

"Fair play to the players, I thought they stuck at what we were asking them to do. At the end of the day, it’s a league double over a good side.

"We prepared them well, and gave them good tactical information, and I’m delighted we were able to turn around a losing position and win the game."

Bell said he asked the players to combine better at half-time, and he was pleased with Tabiner's second of the season which sealed the victory.

He added: "After the first half we were playing as individuals, rather than together.

"If we’d have played together we’d have had more clear-cut chances.

"There was a point when the crowd started to get agitated and I thought that translated to the players, but the changes sparked everything into life.

We’ve been getting on to Joel about scoring goals and making goals, and it was a great cross into the box and a lovely deft touch to put it to the side of the keeper. It was a well-worked goal."
