Boss: ‘Goals conceded were unacceptable’

26 April 2023

Lee Bell says the goals Crewe Alexandra conceded at Grimsby Town were ‘unacceptable’.

The Railwaymen lost 2-0 at Blundell Park, and the Manager felt both goals were mainly due to lapses in concentration.

Gavan Holohan got free from a training-ground free-kick move to strike home the first, while Danilo Orsi was unchallenged as he nodded the second.

Bell said: “If you concede goals like that, that's what happens. We switched off for both goals - what do you expect?

“We got caught out twice, and that's unacceptable. It's about time we did something about it.

“On the other hand, how many times did we create good goal-scoring opportunities? But when we did, we didn't pick the final pass, or we were hitting and hoping.

“We have to be miles better than that, particularly when we get those opportunities away from home.

He added: “I spoke a few weeks ago about not coasting towards the end of the season. Well, I've let them know it looks like some of them are coasting, and it's not going to be accepted.

“As a manager I'm learning plenty, but you want to learn while you win football matches along the way.

“We have got another game on Saturday and there will be changes made for that one.”
