Agyei eager to add to tally at Colchester

9 April 2023

Dan Agyei says he is hungry for more goals as Crewe Alexandra prepare for an Easter Monday clash at Colchester United.

The top-scorer took his tally to 14 for the season with two penalties against Barrow on Friday. He also teed up Christopher Long for a goal, in a 3-0 success at Mornflake Stadium.

Now Agyei has set his sights on bolstering his total, and helping The Railwaymen aim to make it three wins on the spin.

“I’d like to get more, all strikers would like to score as many goals as possible, but 14 is a decent return,” he said.

“Hopefully I can add to that between now and the end of the season. But the most important thing is the team winning and building, and now we turn our attention to Colchester and we’ll try to get another three points there.

“To score two goals and get an assist is positive for me. It’s important we followed the win at Doncaster with another win, and the lads will take positives from it.

“I think I’ve improved a lot during my time here. I’ve become more consistent in my performances and that comes with games. I’ve had a lot of minutes and I’ve really enjoyed it.”

Agyei has a 100% record from the spot for Crewe, with his six penalties all finding the back of the bet this term.

His distinctive, staggered approach to the ball, followed by an unerring finish, has paid dividends.

He added: “I was waiting for the (Barrow) keeper to dive but he wasn’t going anywhere, so took my time – because I’m allowed to.

“There is always going to be gamesmanship but I just had to stay focused and not let it affect me, and I put them both away. I’ve never had two in a game before, but I scored both so I’m happy.”
