U21 Report | Crewe 1 QPR 1

5 September 2022

Crewe Alexandra Under-21s had to settle for a share of the spoils when QPR visited Reaseheath on Monday.

Michael Jackson’s side looked to be heading for their first Professional Development League North win of the season, after Connor Evans gave them a 12th-minute lead.

They protected it until the final stages, but Rafferty Pedder popped up to level for the visitors on 79 minutes, and the game finished 1-1.

It means that Jackson’s side have drawn both of their opening fixtures, with a 2-2 draw against Swansea City coming a fortnight earlier.

Now they will prepare for their next test, when Coventry City will play at Mornflake Stadium on Monday, September 12 (1pm).

Jackson named a strong side, with first-teamers Dave Richards, Oliver Finney and Khanya Leshabela amongst the 11.

The Hoops hit the bar through Stan Flaherty on eight minutes, but Evans was on hand to make the breakthrough from close range soon after.

Good work from Matus Holicek teed up a presentable chance for Oliver Finney before the break, but he couldn’t make a solid connection and Joel Tabiner shot wide when the loose ball dropped to him.

Holicek forced QPR keeper Matteo Salamon into a smart stop soon after the restart, while Regan Griffiths was inches over with a spectacular lobbed effort on 69 minutes.

Richards made an excellent save to keep Crewe’s lead intact, but on 79 minutes it was all-square after Pedder struck.

QPR went closest to nicking a win at the death, but honours were even at the death.

Crewe: Richards, Trialist, Billington, Sass-Davies, C Finney, Griffiths, Leshabela, O Finney, Tabiner, Holicek, Evans. Subs: Booth, Lunt, Martins, Woodcock, Bhatti.
