Tom Seals to play National Anthem live at Mornflake Stadium

15 September 2022

Crewe Alexandra are pleased to announce that international music star Tom Seals will lead the National Anthem before kick-off at Mornflake Stadium on Saturday.

The star pianist and vocalist, who has performed in more than 100 countries across the world, will be back in his home town to lead tributes to Her late Majesty Queen Elizabeth II.

Tom, a lifelong Crewe supporter, will play a grand piano live as the club pays its respects. A minute’s silence will also be held before the 3pm start of our clash with Crawley Town.

Tom, who performed in front of HRH Prince William earlier this year, said: “To be invited to perform the national anthem at my hometown club is a real honour.

“I think it will be the first time most of us will have sung ‘God Save The King’ so it’ll be a moment in history – I’m sure the fans will join me by singing it loud and proud.

“In all my years of coming to the Alex, I can safely say I’ve never seen a grand piano at the side of the pitch, so I’m looking forward to it!”

Tom, 29, grew up in Crewe and has been playing jazz, swing and big band music from the age of seven – and watched The Railwaymen from age 10!

The season-ticket holder, who has worked with and supported established artists such as Jools Holland, Jamie Cullum, Gregory Porter, Dame Cleo Laine, Hugh Laurie and KT Tunstall, has just finished a 13-week series of his own show ‘Tom Seals Presents’ on Sky TV.

The former Ruskin High School and South Cheshire College pupil has performed at prestigious venues including Dubai Opera House and Ronnie Scott’s, as a well as a stint on Broadway.

Fresh from his sell-out ‘Let The Good Times Roll’ tour, Tom has also played at the likes of Glastonbury and Edinburgh Festival.

Tom, who helped former Crewe keeper Steve Phillips raise more than £20,000 for charity by releasing his own version of Blue Moon in 2013, will be in action between 2pm-3pm on Saturday.

We’d love to see as many people as possible come along and sing with their fellow supporter as we mark a special occasion.
